Dear Santa: It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone. It was a pretty good year for gardening. Not too many rainy days and warm enough that almost everything grew fairly well.

I’ve put together a wish list for this coming year and hope you can get some of it filled.

A real, old-fashioned spring. A spring where temperatures warm up during the day and the rain only comes at night. No below freezing temperatures after May 10th, please. It seems that there are ‘way too many vegetable gardeners who want to jump the gun and get plants in before the cold nights have truly passed. So many of them are new to vegetable gardening. Maybe if they could catch a break on the weather, they would be rewarded with a bountiful harvest. With higher prices on almost everything and with an economy that is still shaky for some folks, homegrown food can help many of them to get by.

For all of us gardeners who are over the age of 50, a series of medical breakthroughs that would return our bodies to the level of function that we used to have when we were 20 would be a good thing. From eyes to knees, from backs to feet, we all could use some newer parts.

There is a new generation of kids who are learning about gardening and how it can be a fun hobby. Give their parents and grandparents the patients to show these kids how hard work, over a period of time, can result in beautiful flowers or that special pumpkin that all kids want to have grown for Halloween.

There are a lot of gardeners who are in our military who are far away from home. Hopefully, they can all be home soon, safe and sound.

Some of the gardeners are out of work and have been looking for jobs for a while. Santa, if you can create some of your magic and get jobs for all of those people, then there would be a lot more smiles in the coming year.

Well Santa, there are so many more things to wish for, but time is running short. If you can make all of the things on this list become a reality this year, I think that everyone would be much happier. Thanks for taking the time to work on this for all of us.

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all.
